No Such Thing As Laughing Too Loud

I had nearly forgotten to warn you all against one of the most terrifically bad movies I’ve ever seen…
So, the guys get together for movie/board game night every Wednesday- I only really infiltrate the testosterone when everyone comes to our place, or when Tark and Greg graciously take us to see a cheap-or-free movie. A few weeks back we saw Alien vs Predator: Requiem, which was pretty cheesy, but had a few moments- the most memorable of which was the alien rampaging through a hospital maternity ward… it made every maternal instinct in me curl up and whimper.
And yet that piece of trash is not the movie I intend to censure. For the title “Worst Movie of 2008… I Sincerely Hope” the winner is:
In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Movie
In all fairness to the guys, we all went into this expecting cheese. When you get a line like “Wisdom is our hammer. Prudence will be our nail.” as part of a deathbed speech, that goes beyond cheese. Every sci/fi and fantasy staple was ripped off to some extent- Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, ninja, D&D… you name it, there was a crappy homage.
Plus, the bad guy destroyed a library in the end by turning it into a giant book monster. That hurt my soul…
We had a great time mocking it, as did the group of guys sitting in front of us. I felt a teensy bit bad for the only other guy in the theatre- a man in his 30’s who never laughed once during the entire movie. We never knew if he was that insulted by us, or by the movie itself.
